Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday informed the Parliament that 68 cases have been initiated against Border Security Force (BSF) personnel for their alleged connivance with smugglers including cattle smugglers so far since 2016.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mr Rijiju said that 35 cases were reported in 2016, 31 in 2017 and 2 cases till February this year.
The information further states that 50 out of 68 cases have been finalized, of which punishment were awarded to BSF personnel in 38 cases and in 12 cases resulted in acquittal.
While 18 cases are pending disposal so far.
Smuggling is a booming business along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
