A police officer in Assam’s Kamrup district was arrested and sent to judicial custody for allegedly raping a girl inside a police station, ANI reported.
The accused police officer has been identified as Binod Kumar Das of Ramdia police outpost.
A police official, who confirmed the incident, said that an investigation is underway, reports the news agency.
The accused was arrested based on a complied filed by the victim.
According to The Tribune, the incident occurred on 12 April, when the victim was held overnight in custody after police rescued her after she eloped with a boy.
As per the latest report of National Crimes Records Bureau (2016), 10 cases of custodial rapes were registered across the country.
