Assam: Two Youths beaten to death in Karbi Anglong

Two youths from Guwahati were brutally beaten to death in the district of Karbi Anglong of Assam on Friday night on suspicion of being child lifters.

As per a media report, the Police said that the victims Abhijit Nath and Nilutpal Das were attacked by a group of men at Panjuri Kachari village, 16 km from Dokmoka town while they were on the way to the Kanthe Langshu picnic.

Eyewitnesses said the two boys were brutally hit by bamboo poles and wood, and tortured to death by a mob of ‘inebriated’ villagers.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has expressed his concern over the incident and directed Additional Director General of Police, Mukesh Agarwal, to move to the spot to probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, parents of both victims have lodged complaint with the Police and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police G. V.  Siva Prasad said that they have identified the people behind the incident. So far, four persons have been arrested.

“A police team reached the spot after receiving information of the assault by 200-250 people. One of the victims had died on the spot, while the other died on way to the hospital,” he said, attributing the duo’s killing to “a combination of bad circumstances.” he further said.

CM Sonowal, urged the people to maintain peace and social harmony and not to fall prey to rumours.
