Pakistan deploys Army to quell outrage against rape and murder of 7 year old Zainab

Pakistan witnessed riots today after people started protesting against the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab. She went missing several days back and her dead body was found in a rubbish dump on Tuesday, raped and strangled.

Demonstrators, outraged by the inaction against the spate of abductions, sexual assaults and killings attacked the police headquarters in Kasur, south of Lahore today. The police opened fire killing two protestors on the spot.

To quell the peoples’ outrage, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, official spokesperson of Pakistan Armed Forces in a tweet stated that Chief of Army Staff directed the Army to immediately provide all-out support to civil administration to arrest the culprits.

The police reportedly failed to act on time and there have been about 12 such similar murders in the last two years in Kasur.

Opposition leader Imran Khan condemned the horrific incident as well as police firing.
